  • Hold a valid foreign pilot licence issued by an ICAO-recognised authority.

  • Hold a valid medical certificate that meets South African CAA requirements (Class 1 for CPL or ATPL, Class 2 for PPL).

  • Obtain a South African CAA verification of your foreign licence and logbook.

  • Pass the required South African air law examination for the licence category being converted.

  • Complete a skills assessment flight with an approved South African flight school to determine required familiarisation training.

  • Complete any required dual flying, including local procedures, controlled and uncontrolled airspace operations, and radio telephony standards.

  • Pass the practical flight test with a SACAA-approved Designated Flight Examiner.

  • Submit all documentation:

    • Verified logbook

    • Foreign licence copy

    • Medical certificate

    • Results of the air law exam

    • Flight test report

    • Proof of identity and required forms

  • Once approved, the SACAA will issue the South African licence matching the level of your foreign licence (PPL, CPL, or ATPL).
